Here is my reflection to the article written by James Carse:
Genuine or true life is not scripted in advance by somebody. It is spontaneous and growing from the source within. Life is like a garden. It has its own roots. Its own source. It needs nurturing that comes from within. When parents raise their children they naturally provide nutrients to their children. They love them unconditionally. They do not write their children's scripts. As the children grow and learn from their experiences they write their own scripts, They find their own destination. They become their authentic selves. I have learnt from my experiences that there are different paths to self-realization. As the Rigveda says, there are different paths to know the Truth. And that is freedom. I learned this truth by being with people with different religious orientations without imposing their belief system on others who are different from their religious orientations. I have also met people who believe that their religious orientation is superior to others' religious orientations. Sadly there have been religious wars in which thousands of people have been killed and holy places have been destroyed. How do we relate to the mother earth makes a big difference. Do we relate to the earth as source or as resource? When we relate to the earth as source we relate to it as a source of nurturing like our mother. But if we relate to the earth as a resource we exploit it for our own gains. This way of relating to the earth has caused huge problems. Sadly we are exploiting many natural resources for our own benefits without realizing that we are a part of nature and not apart from nature. Hurting nature is hurting ourselves. It is time to wake up and see the truth. And we all need to join our hands to save and preserve our mother earth. Namaste!

This will be one I will be reading many times and thinking about and perhaps commenting on more. The OP I agree with specific passages but then disagree with some. In your response I agree certainly with the last part. Lets see if I can start with a few thoughts I have. First, I was raised Catholic, though I would not say I am believe in everything of this faith. I do not like the contradictions (an Eye for an Eye/Turn the other cheek), the sexism, power, politics, hypocrisy & abuses in the religion. I know God knows my heart & I have a relationship with HIM. Now that goes to the first part of your reply Dr. Dave. According to my faith there is predeterimination and discernment and if you pray to him HE may and could actually answer your prayers so that would disagree with the idea of "scripted in advance." Also HE choose the family you are raised in, the SES, the country etc so that influences who you become. I could go on here.. :-) Next, the OP and you mentioning really to just let children write their own scripts or not having your children grow in a certain way...I understand the idea generally, but we do even without it being extreme like "you will be a doctor" or "you will not marry someone out of your culture etc." The simple fact of what our views are, say religion or politics will influence them. Then if a child needs extra help in education a parent may influence them by getting them help & giving them messages that they can accomplish anything or do nothing or put them down and say they will amount to nothing. Which path is taken will then script and set the child on a certain path. Again, I can go on. Then as for the Garden/Earth...again, I agree with the general idea as well, but there is also death in a garden all by itself. The circle of life. My faith does state the earth was giving as a resource but again also says we should take care of it. I think we should tend to it and take care of it and observe and learn from it but the reality is we may need to help it out. People have abused it for so long it does need to be helped out, invasive species, ocean temperatures to high, plastics etc. We need to intervene now. Again, I may post more later... :-)
