Reading this conversation of David Godman (the questioner) and Ramana Maharishi's, published in the awakin.org, it reminds me of the chant I do before I do my daily meditation : "OM asato ma sadgamaya,
tamaso ma jyotir gamaya, mrityor ma amritam gamaya. OM shantihi, shantihi, shantihi. Translation: Om! Lead me from the unreal to the Real, from darkness to Light, from death to Immortality Peace. Peace, Peace. We are looking for eternal peace. It is my understanding that real peace comes from inside, not from outside. It comes from silence when all the external and internal noises fade away. Peace is already and forever dwells in Silence. I hear the voice of Peace when my mind is silent. In the silence I hear the sound of Peace within me, without me, without then, without there but in the Presence, Here, and Now. It is like the clear sky with no clouds. It is in the present moment. When I meditate, when my mind is not engaged in the past and the future, but in the now and here consciousness I abide in the flow of full and clear consciousness, and that is I. As long as the flame in my mind is flickering I cannot see the light within me, the light of awareness of pure or transcendental consciousness which is always present, always free. I have been learning the power of "now consciousness" by practicing Mindfulness Meditation regularly. Practicing Mindfulness Meditation regularly helps me see and disperse the clouds of ignorance and delusion and that way I see the luminous light that shines within us for ever. I also live mindfully so that I do not reside in the self-created prison in me. Practicing mindfulness and living mindfully helps me to be liberated from myself-created bondage. May we all get awakened and get connected with the Divine light of awareness. Namaste!

Interesting Post. First, I don't think when people say they have been in the same river twice them mean that it is exactly the same. I believe they just mean by name or location. Next, Ramana Maharshi states it is an error in perception and things are not real. Right now, I'm still thinking, I would disagree. I feel it is real (we can touch, smell, taste, see, hear the item) but it is from how our brain interprets it. Now that means another person/knower may perceive it differently just from their unique brain (all senses vary per person), the conditions (are they tired, stressed etc), their age and experiences (my 2 yr old niece may label something purple where I might say periwinkle and as we know...no one is born a bigot so other social labels as one ages and "learns") and personality (temperament etc) etc can alter their perception. Now who is right as far as the perception and whether it is reality? Is the combination of all humans (I guess past and present combined) the correct perception that makes it reality? Is it the perception is accurate and reality for that person since we cannot always know another's perception like how they smell the hot chocolate chip cookies? This reminds me of the activity done in psych classes many times where the teacher asks a student to come up to the front of the class. The teacher then shows the class a card and asks the class what color it is. The class says Blue. The teacher asks the student at the front of the class, and he/she says Red. Everyone is like "what?!" They are not thinking the card has different colors on each side. :-)

Dear Debbie: The comparison reminds me of St. Francis of Assisi. Brother Sun 🌞 Sister Moon 🌙, Brother Fire 🔥 Sister Water 💦. I love the term Darkness into Lightness🕯️ I am grateful that my Creator's enlightenment and encouragement through other people that includes strangers.. Spiritually is looking at your cave and moving out that you and others able share the gift. At times we may be frighten to run back to our cave We already had the taste of enlightenment with all creation. We are not as happy in the cave. Loving God, hear our cry being in Darkness as You walk with us into the Light of the 🌎 World with each of us. 🛐
