The Weighing

Here is my reflection to the poem written by Jane Hirshfield :

Life is like a river and it has two banks: joys and sorrows, tears and laughter, ups and downs, light and darkness. I have gone through many ups and downs in my life. When I was going down I tried to resist the flow of pain and suffering. It did not work. In fact, denial of the darkness that I was going through made the darkness thicker and heavier. As I accepted the truth of the reality my heart became lighter and softer. I started seeing the rays of joy and delight in my life. A new day dawned in my life and I welcomed it joyfully and gratefully.
Namaste!

Hello Dr Dave.

Your reflection resonates deeply in my heart, as when there is darkness or sadness in life, the focus upon that deepens that even more. The realization of the good, the loving, the gratitude, etc. refocuses the heart and mind and the beauty, lightness and empowerment ringing forth joy and creative and wonderful options .

I like to think of happiness and sadness as a roller coaster rather than two sides of a river. The
reason I feel this way is that I've done though i'm traveling through both of them but that I will get out of this sadness I'm back in to Happiness. My feeling about opposite size of the River is that you can get stuck on one side and have to wait for a boat, especially if you can't swim across the river. And then some people might imagine the river really wide ir torrential and that just gets one into trouble I think.
