Based on the wonderful writing by Howard Thurman, below is my reflection:

We all have the potential source of Inner Light to see the Reality, the Truth, the Sacredness. Such inner light shines when our eyes do not get blinded by the power of hungry and self-centered people in our life. We are witnessing such authoritarian power, hungry, and self-centered leaders in many parts of the world creating divisiveness, hatred and destruction. How do we create a world where we can relate to each other as highly evolved human beings? How can we create light in darkness? We have been blessed to witness highly evolved leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Howard Thurman, Martin Luther King Jr and others mentioned in the introduction of the passage. This is a call for all of us to wake up, to remain awake, to join hands with our brothers and sisters and take a firm and strong stand for peaceful coexistence. Cultivating inner qualities of knowing the truth, listening to it with an open mind and open heart, and taking a courageous stand and joining hands with others is my way of going through such difficult times. When I am walking on this path I remain alert, awake and aware of not taking a wrong step. I am blessed to have people in my life who provide a clear mirror to see my blind spot. I am very grateful to them for helping me to walk clearly on my path of serving others. Studying and following the Eightfold Path of the Buddha has been very helpful to me in my journey of life. May we all awaken and walk on the path of authenticity, compassion and selfless service!
Namaste!

What helps you realize the power of your inner authority and consent?

I surprised myself at a Session Meeting of Elders at my church. We have an active congregation to assist in most areas such as Worship, Facilities, Mission, Health, Hospitality, Communications, My duties as Elder is to be the Moderator over 6 areas of grounds and the Sanctuary, Office, and the All Purpose Buildings. Also includes chair of Safety/Preparedness/Health working with AZ and FEMA Homeland Security developing with the Pima County Sheriff's a Vulnerable Assessment.

We were discussing our Memorial Garden to construct/build a new Columbarium Housing Structure with 21 niches for urns. My duties as Moderator select bids proposals, structure, construction workers, maintaining, etc.,

As we discussed the process, I was informed that my duties included fund raising. What? Shoot me! My plate is already overflowing without fund raising. Being the Moderator to me is brick and mortar. My spirit moved into darkness.

In prayer and meditation, I realized that I've limited my writings of developing book four. Lacking to follow up my living quarters improvements, etc. I repeated those words Fund Raising - Shoot Me. It gave me an uncomforting motion. I shared it with an office staff. She said, “I’m already on your team we need to find a member to take over the fund-raising part that it would be in your report.”

The "Light” I am not alone - God and others are with me. This is a start of the light owning God is with me. The uncomforted zone of "Shoot me," is not a term I’ve used before. Just getting in touch with my feelings gradually allowed the window of my heart to open towards the universe.

I love the idea Howard Thurman uses of the Ocean as an example. Woo Hoo Blue Mind. I also love the Angel with the flaming sword at the alter and nothing passes him. It reminds me of St. Michael, the ArchAngel. I have a brother Michael and so I'm drawn to images of St. Michael. Just picked up a card with a new picture when I did our annual Holy Thurs visiting 7 churches for adoration. This reading really helped me to think how this poem could serve as a reminder when one is feeling fear, anxiety etc. The Angel (St. Michael to me) is there with his flaming sword and will protect me. Nothing will get past him. I need not worry. I agree, it is only with my consent does it become part of me.
