New Forms Of Religion

This reading is very important not only for the young generation but also for the old generation. The traditional conventional orthodox and dogmatic religions are not relevant to the young generation. The great ship of the fundamentalist religion seems to be sinking and as Laurence Freeman says," the resurgence of on an unprecedented scale on the contemplative scale of the contemplative dimension -indeed heart-of religion." Though I am of the old generation, I am on the same wave length. We all have hunger to walk on the spiritual path, a path of awakening and actualizing of human potential - self-actualization, self-realization.
The traditional dogmatic religions cannot quench or fulfill our hunger and quench our thirst. Spirituality light up our inner light. It is beyond praise and blam, and has no space and time boundaries. It dwells in all of us. Contemplative practices open the inner door to see it. It brings all people together and creates brotherhood and sisterhood- harmony. Contemplation by itself is not enough. It has to join hands with action. I know it and try to live my life by implementing contemplative practices. It is an everyday practice. I experience heartfelt joy and contentment.

I love how Dalai Lama responded to a question asked by a reporter, "What is your religion?" Dalai Lama answered, "Compassion and loving kindness is my religion and I live by it." This reminds me of Mahatma Gandhi's response to a question, "What is your message?" And he said," Life is my message." As the author says, "We all seek wholeness". We all feel longing for wholeness. I relate to these wise statements by doing selfless service, by holding a hand of a someone feeling pain, by relating to someone compassionately and kindly who is suffering, and by unconditional positive regard. By practice it gets easy, effortless, and natural. And I feel fulfillment and gratitude. Life is a blissful journey, a pilgrimage.

Namaste

Thank you so much for showing us the way to our inner light. I was made aware of it just by being in your presence many years ago and it continues until today. We are fortunate to have you in our lives and I truly appreciate your life message. You share yourSelf with us in simple but profound ways. You are a true Master in my eyes. I pray to one day live like you do. Sharing the service (shedding a light to who we really are) with others not through words but with deep loving presence.

I totally agree with Maria's reply! My thoughts on the OP and your words...

I agree, the religion, of many faiths, of my youth and the generations before me is dying. Even for me. I believe in some ways, at least in the Catholic faith, practicing the religion as it was, feels hypocritical when women are not treated as equals, money is asked for when vast riches are stored in the Vatican basement, when so many abuses happened in the past and they were covered up etc. To proclaim "Practice what you Preach" when they themselves do not do so, just does not work. We see many who are zealous about their religion yet do not condemn the horrific behaviors of someone they support and even are willing to be violent themselves in support of this person. I do understand this is not all of any particular faith, but it is a problem right now for many. The question is have these people changed or did they never really understand their faith and now feel free to speak their beliefs and behavior in such a horrific manner.

I do believe the younger generations is on a path which has the potential of really understanding much better than previous generations what a life of love is really about in this world. They see what the world is like now, the violence, greed and corruption, disregard for the future of our planet and understand how wrong it is and hopefully will continue to change things for the better. Time will tell, but I pray they are successful, and I hope I can help them along the way.
